Connect catalyst selection with the process
Sioplas systems use silane-functionalized polymers, moisture and a suitable catalyst system to develop crosslinking. Catalyst choice should be considered alongside base polymer, additive package, storage conditions and the intended curing environment.
Compare systems under controlled conditions
Tin-based and alternative catalyst systems can differ in cure response and processing behaviour. Avoid broad conclusions from product labels alone: compare candidate systems in the actual formulation, using a common conditioning procedure and defined curing conditions. Supplier guidance and application-specific test data are essential inputs.
Protect the processing window
Moisture history, catalyst distribution, temperature and residence time can influence process consistency. Track handling and extrusion conditions when investigating surface defects, premature crosslinking or variable cure response. A useful comparison separates extrusion stability from subsequent curing performance.
Assess the cured material
Hot-set behaviour, mechanical properties and gel content where applicable provide complementary evidence. For XL-HFFR systems, also review how the filler and flame-retardant package interact with the formulation and cure route. Confirm performance against the selected specification rather than assuming equivalence between catalyst systems.
