Evaluate the complete cable system
Flame-retardant compound development should be aligned with the intended cable construction and classification objective. Polymer selection, filler systems, dispersion and processing all influence the behaviour of the material.
A compound test result alone does not establish a finished cable’s CPR classification. Define the relevant cable-level test and classification requirements, then assess candidate formulations within the actual cable design.
Plan the development study
- Define the target cable application and classification requirements.
- Balance fire-performance targets with mechanical and extrusion properties.
- Compare formulations under consistent test and conditioning procedures.
- Coordinate finished-cable testing with the appropriate testing and certification bodies.
